Why is Irish an important language to learn?

Everyone loves hearing Irish brogue and while you may not have the same accent when you speak this language, the words will still have the same meaning.  And why wouldn’t you want to use this language when you are traveling over the green rolling hills of Ireland’s countryside, soaking up the history, feeling welcomed by the locals, and drinking pint after pint of Guinness.  You can speak English when you visit this beautiful country, since almost every single local speaks English as well.  However, there is something to be said about visiting a country and knowing how to speak their official language that will make you feel even more welcomed than you could ever imagine.  While everyone speaks English in Ireland, less than eighty thousand of them speak Irish on a daily basis and for most, it is less often.  Irish could be considered a dying language in today’s world, which is the number one reason why everyone needs to learn how to speak it.  There are some people living in other areas of the world that can speak this language, but it is not enough to significantly bring the numbers up.  Once you learn Irish, you will easily be able to understand the meanings of surnames, places, and even personal names, plus you will find that the culture and traditions are much more fascinating.  Imagine being able to understand all the Irish proverbs, folklore, and even literature without losing anything in the translation to English or another language.  And who knows, if you are single, learning this language may give you the opportunity to fall in love with an Irish local, making all your dreams come true!
